Gil was hard work when it came to me getting his permission to write his story. His reluctance was based on the fact that he had fallen out with the club after he was sacked as Manager. As well as being a successful sales title, it is still selling today, I believe it helped get Gil back into The Blues such that they renamed the Railway End, the Gil Merrick stand.

There are many ways to measure whether your book has been a worthwhile effort. One measure is the ranking on Amazon for "Best Sellers in Football" and we made it to 15th in the Top 100

This image appears on the back cover of the book. For me it captures two memories: firstly the fact that Gil rarely wore gloves even in wet conditions and secondly the crowds of the fifties and sixties, all standing, "grey" in appearance and no replica shirts!
